Alexis is a village in Mercer and Warren counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 863 at the 2000 census.〔(City data. 2000 census information ) Retrieved on May 16, 2007〕 The Warren County portion of Alexis is part of the Galesburg Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the Mercer County portion is part of the Davenport–Moline–Rock Island, IA-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Alexis was originally called Alexandria, and under the latter name was laid out in 1870 when the railroad was extended to that point. After learning of another Illinois town named Alexander, the founders wanted a new name. Around this time, Grand Duke Alexis was visiting the country, after whom the town was renamed.〔(Origin of Name of Alexis, Illinois, USA )〕 ==Geography== Alexis is located at (41.063433, -90.554951). The village is situated along the boundary between Warren and Mercer counties. In the 2000 census, 499 of Alexis' 863 residents (57.8%) lived in Warren County and 364 (42.2%) lived in Mercer County.
